Ok, just for the record, I understand that this patch has only been out for just 11 hours as of today and that there is a highly probability of CCP deploying an urgent hotfix sometime during this week to address at least some of the issues I am about to point out.
Now to my feedback.
The Good
First off, I like to thank CCP for giving us some awesome new maps. The new socket sets provide a decent challenge given my profession and I am able to flank more effectively than before.
Another think I like to compliment CCP on is the improvement on the hit detection. At first I read rumors that the nova knives had their hit detection gimped, but after several play testing of my own, it seems that's not the case. More of my strikes are actually causing damage rather than just fake damage. Of course, this means that the hit detection works the other way around against me since now I'm getting hit almost dead on during frontal attacks by bullets. Though I suspect that aim assist might have something to do with it. This has forced me to take on a more passive approach to attacking by stalking my targets more often. I'm not saying that forcing me to stalk is a bad thing. After all, I like a challenge and I am ninja.
There is also the streamlined battle finder which I like very much as well as the added feature of seeing the stats from my previous battle.
The profile dampening seems to have become more useful now as I am now able to flank my targets more effectively.
The Bad
Ok, now that I am done talking about the positive things, time for the negatives.
First, you'll need to deploy a hotfix as soon as humanly possible because the battle finder for public contracts is jacked up. I specifically told the system to queue me up only for skirmish matches, but only the first match since logging in sends me into a skirmish match. Every other consecutive match that I get queued into seems to be domination. Which brings me to my next point.
One of the domination matches, particularly the Ashland map, has a major problem with the null cannon. Once hacked, it seems that the missile being launched by the null cannon strikes a part of the central structure that's preventing it from going to the MCC. This means that once the match starts, the only way to finish the match is to either clone the enemy or wait for the MCCs to destroy each other little by little with their tiny turrets. Considering the lack of players on occasion, this means that the match could drag on for an hour at least.
Something is strange about the matchmaking. There seems to be less players in the matches to the point where on several occasions teams were uneven. I was put into a team of 12 players against a team of 6 players. Sometimes I even got the short end of the stick and got stuck with a 7-man team against 14 players. For this I can safely assume one of a couple of things on why this is happening:
1. The patch is only 11 hour in and more than likely most Dust players are not home yet from class or work and have yet to download the update. 2. The new anti-AFK system has probably discouraged a lot of AFKers from coming into the match. If that's the case, then it seems the vast majority of the people who were here before today were just AFKers. Sad.
Despite the improvement to the usefullness of the profile dampeners, I now find myself (more often than not) turning a corner only to have a bunch of reds facing my direction. I don't mind retreating, but when I do it's already too late and all my effort to maintain the element of surprise has gone to waste especially after having to traverse half a map to get to a suitable target. Keep in mind that I am a Nova Knifer and have not invested a single SP into a gun. Not even the SMG. It would be really nice if you guys hurry up with that cloaking equipment you mentioned in your dev blogs.
The nova knives still don't hit a running target when I chase them. At least most of the time. The only way for me to achieve that is to use the sprint/charge glitch. Without this glitch, the strike delays by about 0.25-0.4 second just after it interrupts my sprint and thus causes me to not hit my target because now he is just 1 foot too far. And since my target can hear my strikes, it becomes incredibly difficult to finish the kill. This is really annoying.
Conclusion
The new patch is mostly alright and the game seems more stable as I have yet to encounter any frame rate or lag issues and the new maps and outpost are fun. But you need to hurry up with the hotfix to address the issue with the public contracts queuing system and you need to fix null cannon in the Ashland map during domination. The nova knives seem to be able to hit more targets but only if they're not sprinting away from me (assuming I don't use the sprint/charge glitch).
Recommendations
I recommend that in the next patch or hotfix, you need to allow the nova knives to hold their charge while sprinting. Given the new changes and how effective all other weapons have become and since HMG-wielding heavies are now a real challenge (finally), this will be important.
For the next patch (1.5), I suggest you put in the cloaking equipment you mentioned in your dev blog early this year. That seems to be more important than ever before for us ninjas.
Adjust the instant-strike delay of the knives so that it is truly instant rather than just a momentary delay of about 0.25 second. Either that or don't let the instant-strike interrupt the sprint anymore as that is far more annoying than not being able to hit my target.
Thank you for reading this. |

PS: The aim assist seems to feel a lot more like an aim bot than an aim assist. WTH? |

======= UPDATE =======
Ok CCP, I stand corrected. After playing a handful of matches I have come to this conclusion.
This patch you released is not mostly alright. I can't even play anymore. My play style has been nerfed into oblivion. Not directly as my knifing abilities have remained unaffected in terms of stats and mechanics. My profession has been INDIRECTLY nerfed thanks to the aim-assist.
I want to make it absolutely clear that I had no problem seeing aim-assist come back to the game. It's how it was brought back that hurts me the most.
I no longer stand any chance of survival. As soon as I am spotted, I'm just dead. Pretty much dead no matter how much I want to avoid the enemy and no matter how fast I can run my way out of dodge. In just a fraction of a second, I am dead. And to add insult to injury, most of my deaths are currently due to militia-level guns (not just ARs). Militia versus my Proto-level scout fitted with at least 225 HP of shields alone which should have been enough to at least help me get to cover. But no, it's like every bullet in that person's clip managed to find their way towards me regardless of me speeding at 9.63m/s trying to get to cover.
Even close-quarter combat is no longer possible for me. I can no longer go toe-to-toe with anyone, not even when I have the element of surprise which has become a rare luxury for me at this point.
You know, looking back at this, I remember during the Codex build in closed beta that the nova knives were complete crap at the time. Back then, even a full charge couldn't deal enough damage to scrap an assault. On top of that, I had to deal with ****-poor profile dampening because the contrasting silhouettes enabled anyone across the map to see me and snipe me from anywhere. But even back then it wasn't as bad as this. At least back then I was able to get at least one kill for every death I experienced.
Today, however, it's worse than that. My profession seems dead just like my clone bodies strewn all over the battlefield. I can't even get close to my enemy anymore. They just have to look at me for one second and *POOF* I'm dead. There was only one map that gave me ANY chance at all for a snowball in hell to survive and even then I felt like I was just lucky. It was the new Gallente Research Lab that came out. But even there it was difficult to isolate anyone. Guerrilla tactics only worked for so long in that map.
And guess what, I was using the sprint-charge glitch and even that didn't help... at all.
So, if my profession has been so negatively impacted that not even exploiting a sprint-charge glitch could save me at all, something is terribly wrong.
That aim-assist is just overpowering.
For those of you who just like to troll me saying that I'm whining about not having good gun game against the aim-assist, consider this....
I have been running around with knives, and only knives, in a gun game. I'm practically one of a rare breed of players who have the balls of tritanium to face all of you AR users with just a knife. |

Good thing I got that 'skinweave' assault bpo and 'exile' assault rifle. I got NO SP invested into guns... none. |
